The Reindeer’s coat effectively insulates it from freezing water or icy winds, while its large antlers and hooves are used to scrape the snow for lichen. Pregnant females also use their antlers to fight males in winter when food is scarce. The Reindeer is the only species of deer in which both sexes have long antlers, with a unique shovel-like brow tine on one side. |
